Organic Farming 101 Training

Organic Farming 101 In-Service Training

November 4, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM – Searcy, AR

Join us at the White County Extension Office in Searcy on Tuesday, November 4th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for a training focused on the fundamentals of certified organic farming. The event will feature presentations from an organic certifier, a farmer panel, and partner organizations, along with farm visits to Firelight Farm and Wholly Cow Farm. County Extension agents will gain practical knowledge of organic standards, certification requirements, and first-hand insights from Arkansas farmers in specialty crops, livestock, and row crops.

Organic Farm Tour at Dripping Springs Garden

November 9th, 3:00-6:00 PM – Huntsville, AR

Join us for an afternoon at Dripping Springs Garden in Huntsville for a guided tour with farmer Mark Cain. We’ll explore organic vegetable and cut flower production methods and discuss the ins and outs of USDA Organic Certification. Plus, learn about the TOPP Organic Farmer Mentorship Program and how it can support your journey to organic. Come ready to ask questions and connect with fellow farmers from across the region.

Organic Weed Management Field Day

RESCHEDULED FOR MAY 14 at the CAFF Farm in Fayetteville

Join us for a hands-on field day where you will learn about various techniques for weed management in organic vegetable systems with the opportunity to operate cultivation equipment for small and mid-scale production. We will also discuss weed scouting and ID, organic herbicides, flame weeding, and other organic strategies.

Advanced Crop Nutrition for Specialty Crops

September 16–17, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM – Fayetteville, AR

Join us at the CAFF Teaching Farm for a two-day short course focused on specialty crop fertility. Learn how to collect and interpret soil and foliar samples, build a fertility plan that integrates cover crops, organic amendments, and fertigation, and consider the economics of these practices. Instructors include Riley Silva and Joe Hannan (CAFF), Ryan Neal and Colin Massey (UACES), Cameron Frangenburg (Cobblestone Farm), Jeremy Baranauskas (Prairie Woods Farm), and Matt Bartucci (UA Horticulture).

September 28th, 3:00-6:00 PM – Sulphur Springs, AR

Spend a fall afternoon at PrairieWoods Farm in Sulphur Springs for a guided tour with farmer Jeremy. We’ll walk the fields, talk through real-world approaches to sourcing organic fertilizers, and share tips for coordinating bulk orders with nearby farms. Come ready to swap ideas and make connections with other growers across Northwest Arkansas.

Organic Field Crop Production Meeting

October 7, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM – Alma, AR

Join us at the University of Arkansas Vegetable Research Station in Alma on October 7th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for a field day focused on organic field crop production in the Mid-South. The event will feature expert presentations, discussions, and a tour of organic research plots evaluating weed control strategies. Farmers, researchers, and industry professionals are invited to learn about certification basics, market opportunities, organic edamame production, and the economics of organic field crops.
